Setting Up Amazon Cloudfront CDN With Your Wordpress Site

Firstly, if you do not have it already added to your WP installation, you will need to install the W3 Total Cache plugin on your website.

Then go to your Wordpress Admin panel > Performance > General settings.

Here you have a lot of options but we need the CDN section:

When you find it, open the “CDN Type” menu and choose “Amazon CloudFront” under the “Original Pull/Mirror” section. Then Save Settings.

Then, go to the “W3 Total Cache” > “CDN” menu:

and find the Configuration section. Here you need to put your unique subdomain (provided by Amazon inside their CDN admin area or by us if we are handling the CDN configuration for you) in the field, “Replace site's hostname with”.

Then, Save Settings and go back to “Performance” > “General settings”> “CDN” section to enable the CDN.

Then tick “Enable” click the button “Save all settings” and Cloudfront CDN should now be working.

Keep in mind that the first couple of page loads on the site may seem slower than usual. That is because the CDN network needs to read and cache your website, and that is done in the first few page loads after the CDN is activated. However, after the page has been cached by the Cloudfront CDN, page loads will be faster than before.
